Glaucoma department was established in 1998.
Faculty experts and team
Professor Ji Jian is the most senior consultant and the founder of the department. She has been engaged in ophthalmology for nearly 40 years, she has extensive experience in the treatment of cataract, glaucoma and various hereditary ocular diseases. She has participated in many scientific researches and has published many articles, including 10 SCI articles. She presided over a number of subjects in Tianjin. She has taken the lead in extracapsular cataract extraction, intraocular lens implantation, phacoemulsification, transscleral ciliary body photocoagulation, glaucoma drainage valve implantation, endoscopic ciliary photocoagulation, autologous anterior lens capsule transplantation for the treatment of glaucoma, glaucoma drainage implantation and other advanced technologies. Among them, the research on new non-phacoemulsification non-surgical cataract extraction surgery was approved by Tianjin Science and Technology Commission in 2000 and won the third prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Achievement in 2002. The study of autologous anterior capsule in glaucoma cataract surgery won the third prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award in 2018. The department currently has one senior consultant, three consultants, one attending physician, and one resident physician. Three of them have doctoral degree, two have master degree and one has undergraduate degree.
Clinical work and scientific research
In 1986, the glaucoma department began to perform modern extracapsular cataract extraction. In 1987, the department took the lead in the initiation of intraocular lens implantation in Tianjin. In 1994, the Department of Tianjin took the lead in the development of posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation with aphakic extraocular operation. In 1996, the department carried out phacoemulsification with clear limbal incision cataract; in 1998, the department performed research on new non-phacoemulsification cataract extraction and cataract extraction; In 2000, non-penetrating filtration surgery for glaucoma and transscleral ciliary laser photocoagulation for refractory glaucoma was performed. In 2006, aqueous drainage was performed for the treatment of refractory glaucoma. In 2008, the department performed endoscopic ciliary photocoagulation; in 2016, an analgesic pump was applied to transscleral ciliary body photocoagulation; in 2018, the department performed ultrasound ciliary body angioplasty.
Doctors in the glaucoma department undertake the ophthalmology teaching tasks of the School of Optometry and Ophthalmology of Tianjin Medical University and the Dagang Clinical College. At the same time, the hospital serves as a standardized training base for residents, and undertakes the glaucoma rotation work of graduate students, regulatory students and exchange students from Hong Kong, Taiwan and abroad. In addition, every year, doctors from Tianjin and other provinces and cities will be invited to study in the department.
